A classically trained musician, Kiki has played piano and violin for many years and has recently transitioned from the classical realm to the notes of jazz and improvisation. 'this is your brain on anime' -- Paprika is a Japanese animated science fiction film, based on Yasutaka Tsutsui's 1993 novel of the same name, about a research psychologist who uses a device that permits therapists to help patients by entering their dreams. The film was directed by Satoshi Kon, animated by Madhouse & Rainbow SPA, and produced and distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment. The film's music was composed by Susumu Hirasawa, who also composed the soundtrack for Kon's award-winning film, Millennium Actress, and equally lauded television series, Paranoia Agent. Presented by Foreign Film Society.

Gussie Zaks, who survived the Bergen-Belsen, Flossenburg, Blechhammer (Auschwitz IV), Saybusch, and Neusalz concentration camps, will present her personal recollections on Nov. 18. Zaks travels throughout the San Diego region, speaking to students, synagogues and other community groups. She is also the president of the New Life Club for Holocaust survivors in San Diego. Join us on a week long volunteer trip to Guatemala! You may work on projects such as painting a school, retro-fitting a building for special needs children, and planting a garden. Guatemalan government officials will welcome the group and provide a briefing on the history and culture of the area. Local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will present a program on the needs of the area and the issues they are addressing. Evening cultural activities are planned. These experiences will help you determine if global volunteering is right for you and provide realistic, hands-on experience working in a foreign country.

Clarion is widely recognized as a premier training ground for aspiring writers of fantasy and science fiction short stories. The 2010 writers in residence are Delia Sherman, George R.R. Martin, Dale Bailey, Samuel R. Delany, Jeff VanderMeer and Ann VanderMeer. Each year 18-20 students, ranging in age from late teens to those in mid-career, are selected from applicants who have the potential for highly successful writing careers. Students are expected to write several new short stories during the six-week workshop, and to give and receive constructive criticism. Instructors and students reside together in UCSD campus apartments throughout the intensive six-week program. Application period: December 1 - March 1. Workshop: June 27 - August 7, 2010.

Immense yourself for one week during winter break (Dec 13-20th) in rural Panama helping others while experiencing a whole new culture! We will be traveling as a group of 10-20 UCSD students to Panama and working on either one of these projects: installing solar panels and environmental education for an indigenous tribe, OR building a native plants nursery to help with reforestation efforts. -- Eligibility dependent on genuine passion for the environment and applicants will be welcomed until mid-Week 6 or when all spots are filled. Global Water Brigades designs and implements clean water systems to prevent communicable illnesses in communities with limited access to sanitary water. GWB's current focus is in Central America where hundreds of student volunteers and engineers travel annually to implement community-based enterprises with local partners. In-country team members work with local water experts to design blueprints and then volunteers work alongside community members to implement and provide education for maintenance through the creation of 'community water councils'. -- This is a unique opportunity to travel abroad, learn about the culture of Central America, practice your Spanish and gain hands-on experience on international sustainable development. We are looking for healthy subjects to participate in EEG research studies measuring brain activity. You must be between the ages of 18 and 30 to participate. The first hour of the experiment involves putting on an electrode cap that rests on your head. The next 2-3 hours involves responding to line drawings on the computer screen with the push of a button. Compensation is $10 an hour for about 3 hours of participation. UCSD Eating Disorder Treatment and Research Program
In conjunction with Dr. Walter Kaye and his research team. Dr Amanda Bischoff-Grethe is seeking female participants between 14 and 18 years old who have a recent diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa. Qualified participants will be asked to answer questions regarding their personality and cognitive abilities and will also undergo a 1.5 hour brain imaging study. By participating in this research study you may assist physicians and researchers in developing treatments for these complex and serious disorders. You may be compensated up to $100 dollars plus mileage.
